Downtown Little Rock's Holiday Calendar Moves Indoors, Except for One Saturday

Where does a downtown Little Rock holiday season happen when the riverfront is between seasons? For 2026 the answer is a short list of indoor rooms. The Wally Allen Ballroom at the Statehouse Convention Center comes first, then the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, Historic Arkansas Museum on East Third Street and Robinson Center. From tonight through the week before Christmas, nearly every confirmed downtown holiday event is in one of those buildings. The exception is Saturday, Dec. 5, when the parade and the Capitol lighting move the season outside for one afternoon and evening.

The riverfront is between seasons

The River Market has spent nearly three decades as downtown's default gathering spot. Since 1996, the Little Rock Farmers Market has set up under the River Market's two open-air pavilions overlooking Riverfront Park and the Arkansas River. The 2026 market season is over, and the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau has asked shoppers to watch for updates "as renovations to the River Market pavilions move forward."

The market hall next door is on its own longer timeline. In June, the city authorized $20 million for the River Market Hall renovation, and developer New + Found is contributing $5 million. The city said work was expected to start later in 2026 and to take at least a year.

So for now, the riverfront isn't hosting the holidays. The calendar below shows where the season went instead.

The ballroom opens the season tonight

CARTI's Festival of Trees turns 50 this year and starts tonight, Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Wally Allen Ballroom at the Statehouse Convention Center. It runs as three ticketed evenings back to back, each aimed at a different crowd:

  • Sugar Plum Ball, Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. This is a dinner dance for children and the adults who bring them, presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
  • Festival of Fashion, Friday, Nov. 13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the runway show starts at 7 p.m., featuring Central Arkansas boutiques. Inviting Arkansas presents it.
  • Tux 'n Trees Gala, Saturday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. This year's gala honors Shelia Vaught and is presented by Larry Sturdivant and Little Rock Soirée.

Individual tickets for all three nights went on sale Sept. 29 through CARTI's Festival of Trees ticket page, and the organizers also offer reserved tables and blocks of seats. As 501 Life reported for the 50th anniversary, proceeds support services for cancer patients and their families.

The Convention Center comes back into the calendar three weeks later. On parade day it hosts a holiday photo op with seasonal décor from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

November stays fairly quiet after the Festival of Trees closes, with two free Wednesday evenings at the art museum. December stacks up on Fridays and weekends: Dec. 4 and 5 back to back, then Dec. 11 to 13, then Dec. 17 to 20.

Free Wednesdays before the weekends fill up

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts fills the November gap. Bright Nights runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 and Nov. 25 in the museum's Cultural Living Room, with live jazz and holiday decorations. Admission is free, and drinks and snacks are for sale. The second date falls on the night before Thanksgiving.

The museum comes back on Dec. 17 with A Very Improvised Christmas, a 7 p.m. show in its Performing Arts Theater. It runs until 8:15 p.m., and tickets are $15, or $12 for members.

Dec. 11 asks downtown to pick a room

Friday, Dec. 11, is the busiest night on the indoor calendar. From 5 to 8 p.m., Historic Arkansas Museum at 200 E. Third St. hosts the 22nd Ever Nog-Off, with eggnog tastings, music, caroling and holiday shopping. That same weekend, Ballet Arkansas brings The Nutcracker Spectacular to Robinson Center for four performances from Dec. 11 through Dec. 13.

Robinson Center stays busy the following weekend. The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra performs Home for the Holidays three times from Dec. 18 to Dec. 20, the last big downtown production before Christmas.

A household that wants both the Nog-Off and the ballet has options. The Nog-Off ends at 8 p.m. on Friday, and the Nutcracker has performances later in the weekend, so both fit.

Dec. 5 is the one day the season goes outside

Every event above happens under a roof. Saturday, Dec. 5, is the exception, and it fills downtown's streets from midafternoon into the evening.

  1. 2 p.m. The Statehouse Convention Center opens its holiday photo op, which runs until 5:30 p.m.
  2. 3 p.m. The Little Rock Holiday Parade steps off at Broadway and West Markham and travels east along Markham toward the Interstate 30 area. This year's theme is "Candy Cane Lane."
  3. 5:30 p.m. The Arkansas State Capitol Lighting Ceremony begins, hosted by Secretary of State Cole Jester. The 2026 ceremony is the 88th.
  4. About 6:15 p.m. The official tree lighting takes place, followed by fireworks.
  5. After the fireworks The Capitol opens for its indoor displays, including the Fallen Heroes Holiday Tree, Santa's workshop and the Capitol Gift Shop, which carries the 2026 Capitol Christmas Ornament.

The format will look familiar. The parade ran at 3 p.m. on the same Markham route last year, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, with the same "Candy Cane Lane" theme and the Capitol ceremony at 5:30 that evening. In 2024 the parade started at 4 p.m. under the theme "Floats Along the River." That was its first year back downtown after the pandemic pause and its first year under a new name; before that it was the Big Jingle Jubilee. Since the parade moved to 3 p.m., the gap between the end of the parade and the Capitol ceremony has grown, which leaves more time to get from Markham to the Capitol before 5:30. Float entries are organized by the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau, which offered a $500 grand prize and trophy for the best float.

The night before, Friday, Dec. 4, is the last SoMa After Dark of 2026. It's a first-Friday evening on South Main with local shopping, pop-up vendors, food, art and entertainment. For anyone in the Quapaw Quarter or on South Main, that puts two neighborhood evenings back to back, a Friday on South Main and a Saturday on Markham and at the Capitol.

Getting around on parade day

The Little Rock CVB's parking page lists two downtown decks. The Convention District Deck is at 2nd and Main, one block south of the Statehouse Convention Center. The River Market Deck is at River Market Avenue and 2nd Street and has 600 spaces. Rock Region METRO is running a modified streetcar schedule that took effect Aug. 31, 2026, so check the streetcar schedule page before planning a ride on parade afternoon.
